Closet of Hope

Help me give my students a closet of hope, a space to provide clothes to those in need without stigma.

My Project

Providing clothes to students without stigma ensures equal access to education and fosters an inclusive learning environment. This is also a prevalent concern for my students, who over 60% are economically disadvantaged. Due to the clothing insecurity that many of my students have, I and other colleagues are currently working on building a "closet of hope" for my students.

There is a small room at my school where students can walk up to shelves and clothing racks and take what they need.

We currently receive donated clothes to assist with the needs our students face. I want to reduce the stigma of needing to use this closet. Small shelves would truly improve the destigmatization as opposed to having students hunt through bags of donated clothes. My goal is to make this closet look similar to a small store so students do not feel ashamed for needing clothes.

I want to provide shelves to eliminate clothing-related stigma, boost students' self-esteem, and promote inclusivity.
