Close Reading With High Quality Picture Books to Build Comprehension!
My students need high quality picture books for "Close Reading" lessons. They need engaging texts that will hold their interest and build content knowledge. They will also need to be able to make connections between texts!
My students are excited to learn everyday. They have one year under their belt, so now they can jump right into learning. They come from all around the world and have a variety of life styles and learning needs. With a high poverty level, many of my students face multiple challenges both in and out of the classroom. In our classroom environment, a safe, comfortable place to learn is key!
They are constantly striving to do their best and learn as much as possible, This is a full class of twenty-five students this year, so it is going to be a fun-filled exciting year of learning.
My Project
These picture books will be used across 5 units and themes in close reading lessons in a first grade classroom. These books have specifically been picked for the quality of the book as well as the ability for students to learn the essentials of close reading skills. These books have gotten rave reviews and will take young readers and writers quite a distance in their literacy development. Not only will these books be engaging, the students will be able to practice their skills and learn to do deeper thinking about the books as well as make connections across the texts.
Multiple copies are needed so the kids have ample opportunities to revisit the text and voice what the see and understand, work with their peers and share their thinking about the themes we are working with.
