My Students
Fifth grade is an important grade because it is when students start to become individuals and really begin to think about who they want to become. They may not be ready to choose a career path, but are deciding if they are going to give it their all to do well in school, sports, and friendships. My students give it their all, all day, every day! Technology helps me motivate them!
Unfortunately, our school receives very little funding for resources like technology and technology-related supplies.
We do the best we can to share among classes, but the continuous use of technology, daily, will help them become more proficient and motivated. Help me, help them!
My Project
My classes started using Google Apps for Education last year as a means of acquiring knowledge, sharing information, providing feedback to each other and extending thinking within and beyond our classroom walls. Students are understanding that writing is an art to be revisited over and over with pride and an open mind for revision. They see that answers are available if they are willing to seek them out, but they need Chromebooks to be able to seek knowledge and share it with others.
Google Classroom provides my students with digital access to all the resources they could possibly need if they have access to a Chromebook, but my students with special needs still benefit from having hard copies, checklists, or models alongside them on clipboards in order to view multiple resources at once.
Access to Chromebooks breaks down barriers that were once a hindrance to learning, such as not having enough books or the correct books. With support from both digital and hardcopy visuals on clipboards, students can search and extend their thinking at their will, without barriers. After integrating the use of Chromebooks, students will do extension projects and research without prompting or even the promise of extra credit. Chromebooks have and will continue to promote stronger self-motivation and student-centered learning.
