My Students
Have you ever tried to read a music sheet on your lap and play an instrument at the same time? That is the challenge facing my students. The music sheets fall which causes constant stopping and starting.
My students are 4th and 5th graders from an urban neighborhood where it is not easy for them to obtain musical instruction because of their family incomes and backgrounds.
Many of them have a desire to know more about the music program but are inhibited because of their circumstances.
My Project
The material requested will enable us to work faster and accurately in our music learning process. Because of the enthusiasm of the students, if they are able to continue instruction without interruption, they are more apt to want to continue in developing their skills in this program.
Because music education is an important aspect of our scholastic growth, being able to offer this program without major obstacles will enhance the development of my students in their future learning arena.
This also gives them another area of choice when making decisions about what they should do in their present living environment, i.e., gangs and street violence which is now present in their neighborhoods.
