Climbing to Success!

Help me give my students a ROCK CLIMBING WALL to develop their gross motor skills and have FUN for years to come!

My Students

The students are K through 12th grade at a private placement within the public school district where all students who attend require specialized education needing significant supports. The school primarily serves students with Autism and Emotional Disabilities. All students Kindergarten through 8th grade have access to Physical Education, offered by the school. Many games are adapted and many students receive accommodations to access the PE curriculum. The physical education class is often a highlight of their day and a chance for them experience new, fun games while working with others in the spirit of teamwork, competition, and fitness. Adding a traverse rock climbing wall to the curriculum will help further develop my students' fine and gross motor abilities and continue to create fun, challenging activities for all.

My Project

Rock climbing units will be taught with the intention to develop stronger students in both body and mind!

Rock climbing not only has its benefits in helping improve fine and gross motor strength and cardio, but also improves confidence, it can relieve stress, make one more self-aware, and develop perseverance.

Students will have to opportunity to reach goals and achieve success while working through the traverse rock climbing wall going from one end to the next, following patterns ranging in difficulty, and working to improve each time through, challenging themselves and supporting each other. A rock climbing wall will be a HUGE benefit to the PE curriculum that students will appreciate and use for years to come as it will have it's permanent place in our gym!
