My students need two iPads, iPad covers, interactive math computer games, small group reading comprehension kits, seat sacks and silencing chair socks.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Around here, we don’t look backwards for very long… We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things because we’re curious… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths" ~Walt Disney. In my classroom, we only look back to smile at how far we have come and how much we have grown.
The fabulous, enthusiastic and young scholars that I get to call "my children" are truly inspiring.
Sometimes, I forget that I am the teacher because I am learning so much from them. Each and everyday, they come into the classroom full of energy and questions. They are excited to start the day, make connections, learn new things, challenge themselves, help their peers and have fun along the way. Among these smiling faces and high fives, there are children who are hiding hardships. Everyone in life has troubles, but seeing children deal with it in the most healthy and positive way is just amazing. It doesn't matter how much money they have or don't have, how they got to school, if they ate breakfast that morning, if they are wearing the same shirt three days in a row or if they are tired from not being able to sleep because of the noise outside. Everyday, they come in. Everyday, they work hard. Everyday, they are my inspiration. Everyday, they learn.
My Project
Every year, the curriculum and expectations for student growth are changing. It is becoming clear that the younger generations are built around technology. Technology is a fabulous resource. This technology can be integrated and used across all subjects. My students will be able to use the iPads to leap into the twenty-first century and develop various skills such as researching for a writing assignment, research unknown topics from our social studies unit, understand and evaluate the research, create graphs and charts in math, record our voice during reading, and give us access to thousands of apps that will enhance their learning. Along with this outstanding technology, my students will be able to transfer all of that knowledge to the written word, using the Reading Comprehension kits. When it is time to store their notebooks full of new knowledge or their favorite book, they can use their seat sacks to keep everything neat.
The iPads are a small step towards my goal to put technology in the hands of every scholar in my classroom.
The Reading Comprehension kits will help reach those struggling learners by using kid-friendly text.
These resources, along with instruction, would allow my students to better understand the world we live in, the world beyond our own limited experiences. It would open up new possibilities to each scholar in my classroom.
