Help me give my students rock climbing grips to attach outside on a wall so they can climb a painted background of Mt. Fuji! When they reach the top they can tap a bell to ring!
I have 700 elementary students because I am their Art teacher! They enjoy getting messy with different mediums, collaborating with each other and going outside in our Art garden to observe, draw, and paint.
My students who have now graduated told me that I created a safe environment in the classroom and they always felt like they had the freedom to express themselves.
My students are curious and creative and love to learn because I have a passion for teaching that very often can be considered "outside of the box."
My Project
Imaginative play outdoors is good for students. This project would fulfill a need for exercise, fresh air, developing motor skills, and the imagination of scaling a mountain in another country.
Students will paint the famous Mt.
Fuji by Hokusai outside on a brick wall. The outdoor painting mural would be instructed during art class and it would be a collaboration of many grade levels.
After the rock climbing grips are attached to the painted wall, the P.E teacher would teach safety and climbing techniques. The wall would not be built too high for safety reasons. Every student will be able to utilize it.
Collaboration with the librarian would inspire research on other cultures such as Japan, famous mountains, and the author Allen Say.
Students can pretend to be famous explorers, rock climbers and learn history while they exercise.
