My Project
3 years ago we started a Micro habitat in the front of the school. The focus was to create a woodland garden that would foster native Wisconsin species. We used Donor's Choose to start this project. 2 years ago we again turned to Donor's Choose to expand our woodland garden. It is currently home to native Columbine, Asters, Sedges, and insect houses to support solitary bee pollinators.
We are now working to expand our microhabitats in order to provide a mini prairie at school.
This project will allow our whole school to see the wide range of habitats that Wisconsin can support. Our school is a k-12 Montessori school. The ultimate goal is to create a path that will wind all the way around school and travel through different environments.
Providing this experience to our urban school really allows our students to connect with their science curriculum in a new way. We also are working to address climate change by adding climate books to our curriculum. These books are at all levels to allow all the students in our school to participate in this project.
