My Students

My third grade students have the opportunity to explore historical periods such as Ancient Rome, the Vikings, Exploration of North America, Native Americans and Colonial America. Our school doesn't use textbooks, so presenting primary sources and visual images creates a challenge.

My students come from a rural area in Idaho.

I have 28 students who bring a variety of learning styles and abilities. They are excited to learn and engage in our very rich curriculum, but making Ancient Rome come alive for them requires high energy instruction with auditory, visual and kinesthetic support. I obtained a projector which will allow me to show students my computer screen, but I don't have the tools yet to make transitions in lessons flow smoothly. While their parents are very supportive and able to help with time and small classroom needs, the costs of technology is out of their reach.

My Project

With an Elmo document camera and presentation remote, I will be able to effectively use all four walls of my classroom to keep them engaged! The remote will free me to move throughout the room during Power Point presentations and simultaneously show pictures and illustrations from books. It will also help me model the projects for which they are responsible.

The use of primary sources will become an integral part of Common Core Standards which our state will be adopting next year.

The ability to project these images will give my students a more authentic learning situation.
