This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a 1st year stand alone charter school located in Gary, IN. Our school was founded by 4 amazing individuals who have a strong tie to NW Indiana.
Our school services mainly Gary and East Chicago.
I teach three 9th grade math classes. My 80 students range in skill level from a 2nd to a 9th grade level. We are committed to getting 100% of our students to pass the 10th grade ISTEP Math test next year and welcome any support that the community can give to help us reach that goal.
My Project
My students come from lower income areas and do not have the resources to purchase technology for learning. We are also a first year start up, small charter school, with a very limited budget. We are looking to increase the technology in our classroom by purchasing a class set of clickers.
Students will use these clickers every day to complete a Do Now and Exit Slip.
We will also use the clickers during our daily Squad time, which is similar to an advisory program. My Squad is the Harvard Squad, named after my alma mater. We recently started a unit on civility that was co-authored by our principal, Ms. Kirley and the NWI Times.
