Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 25 enthusiastic students this school year. They are an inquisitive group of 8- and 9-year-olds with varied interests from technology to animals. They are always eager to learn new things. Our school is the heart of their neighborhood.

Some of my students come from challenging home environments.

When they come to school, I want them to have the freedom to be kids and learn new things that will benefit their future. From their experience at an early age, many of the students have learned how to be responsible problem solvers. They deserve to have an excellent education in the best environment possible.

My Project

My students that have returned to in-person are loving the ability to be back in the classroom environment! Our elementary school does not have a computer course for students to learn the basics of a computer. Some of the activities they are assigned in Google Classroom require them to know how to click and drag and manipulate different tools. Since they are used to just tapping iPhones and tablets to complete a task, the district laptops they use that have built-in mousepads are difficult for their small hands to use. It's causing me to use my hands to guide their hands when trying to help them finish a task. Using a mouse will help keep me from having to break our social distance protocols as well as have students master their computer skills.
