My students live in a high-poverty section of our city and are not given the same opportunities as other students. In fact one-hundred percent are considered economically disadvantaged. As a school, we pride ourselves in having diverse learning populations with over twelve different languages spoken.
Despite these challenges, my students come to school eager to learn and participate.
My Project
I manage an elementary school computer lab.
As a computer teacher, it is my job to create a productive technological learning environment that makes them feel comfortable and motivated to succeed.
Our students are between the ages of five and eleven and it is important for them to utilize all of the keys on the keyboard. About two hundred students come into the lab in a weekly basis.
Each workstation needs updated keyboards that are not missing keys. Our current keyboards have been extremely worn down especially with the extra cleaning that we engage in to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
