My students need these supplies such as ink, pens, and paper to create photographic cliche verre prints, which by incorporating printed images and hand drawn images onto acetate; they will use them in the darkroom to make photographic cliche verre prints .

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach in a wonderful city that is small in comparison to our surrounding cities. My school district is considered urban and impoverished, but I have always been so proud of how "we do more with less." Although we are at the bottom of the pool financially, our students have been recognized 2 years in a row as one of the top schools in the country (Bronze Award by US News and World Report).

My students may have had to overcome obstacles but they are bright, cheerful, engaging young people with a zest for success.

Our school has so much school pride and a rich history and heritage that began in 1799! The name and addresses have changed over the years, but the school spirit has stayed the same.

My Project

Cliché verre is a combination of painting and or drawing, with photography. In brief, it is a method of either etching, painting, or drawing on a transparent surface, such as glass, thin paper or film, and printing the resulting image on a light sensitive paper in a photographic darkroom.

My students will be learning how to process photographic prints.

They will use an inkjet printer to print images that they incorporate into their drawing. They will use the calligraphy pens and ink to create an original drawing on acetate. They will then take their acetate drawing and use the traditional photographic darkroom to make multiple copies of their drawing on traditional photographic paper.

This project is wonderful because it incorporates the old with the new! The students get to use the computer to collage and collect images, use the calligraphy pens to transfer their images to the acetate, and use the darkroom to make traditional photographic contact prints. During the process, they learn how to make traditional silver prints, the history of photography and printmaking, and they produce a beautiful series of photographic prints.
