Help me give my students a care closet stocked with snacks and hygiene items, so our scholars can focus on their learning, not their hygiene or growling stomachs!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our scholars are resilient and eager to learn. Over eighty percent of our scholars are economically disadvantaged. Due to limited resources in their homes many of our scholars come to school hungry and/or in need of basic hygiene items. Many of our families are still dealing with the effects of Hurricane Harvey and providing for the basic needs of the families present unimaginable hardships. Even in the face of these hardships our scholars are determined to come to school to learn.
It is hard to focus on learning when you are worrying about your hygiene or a stomach growling because of hunger.
Oftentimes, our scholars feel hopeless about their situations, however they do not use that as an excuse when it comes to their education. They strive to get pass what is lacking in their lives and focus on their learning. Our scholars are eager to learn, however when faced with being hungry and unclean the ability to truly be comfortable and focus on classwork becomes difficult. Please consider supporting our awesome scholars to reach their full learning potential and believe in themselves.
My Project
This project is to supply a care closet with snacks and hygiene items for our scholars to have at their disposal. My job on the campus is to provide for the non-academic needs of our scholars and their families. I have been a witness to many scholars who are always hungry or requesting to take left over breakfast items to lunch or to save to take home. By supplying the care closet, our scholars will have a place where they can come for a snack to take to lunch or even to take home so they will have a snack at home. The care closet will also be supplied with basic need items such as washcloths, soap, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc. These items will be available to students who need cleaning up before going to class. I think by having access to hygiene items and snacks, our scholars will be able to be confident and even more engaged with their peers and in the classroom.
I never want our scholars to have to worry about not having access to basic hygiene items and/or food, so I strive to have these items available.
I often rely on donations of snacks and hygiene items, but oftentimes I use my own funds to buy these things, and we often run low. It is my hope to start the year with a large supply of snacks and hygiene, that will ensure no scholar is hungry or unclean, thus being able to focus their attention on their learning. Will you help ensure that our awesome scholars have access to basic hygiene items and snacks?
