Help me give my students the items such as grabbers, safety vests, rakes, and gloves needed to safely and effectively clean up their beloved community.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students are an incredible group of individuals who have a passion for helping their community through community service. Our students want to clean up the area surrounding our school. This would not only benefit our students who walk around our school’s neighborhood but the residents of the neighborhood as well.
We recently attempted a community service clean-up but found that it was difficult without the proper supplies.
I am requesting grabbers because the last time we attempted picking up trash by hand, it resulted in multiple incidents such as students accidentally cutting their hands on sharp objects, or getting questionable substances on their hands, amongst other issues that made students uncomfortable while picking up trash.
I am also requesting safety vests because this was a major problem during our first attempt. We had several close calls with students almost getting hit by cars while attempting to remove litter from the streets because they were not visible enough to drivers. If we get these high-visibility reflective vests for our students to wear, our students will be clearly visible and able to stay out of harm's way.
I am also requesting a rake in order to help students clean up any piles of leaves they might encounter. Leaves on the streets were a clear issue during our initial attempt. Finally, I am requesting a pack of disposable gloves for our students to wear while picking up litter to ensure that nothing gets on their skin.
Our students are leaders who want to create a better community for everyone by cleaning up the local area, but they need the proper supplies in order to achieve this. If we were provided with our requested materials, our students would be able to accomplish their goals without having to worry about their safety.
