Cleaning Up in Carpentry

My Students

My students have not been in school since early March 2020 due to COVID-19. In August, they will be both anxious and excited to get back to school and see their friends.

As freshmen and sophomores, this is the inaugural group of students entering the new two year carpentry program at our career and technical center.

This is not only a new program for the students, but it is also a change in teaching paths for me. For over twenty years, I have taught special education and science. As the carpentry teacher, I am looking forward to combining my love of woodwork with my love of teaching. I am also excited about getting to teach many of my former students again!

My Project

With a new program came an empty classroom, so I have found myself starting over and stocking up. New furniture items will make my classroom comfortable and inviting as we learn safety, communication skills, and work-readiness skills. Cleaning supplies and a first aid kit will help my students stay healthy and practice wellness in both the classroom and carpentry shop.

Staying healthy, well, and safe will make my classroom and carpentry shop a place where the stress and anxiety of a COVID-19 school year can be forgotten for just a little while.
