My Students

This year, unlike any other, has my students facing hurdles they have never had to face. They return to school after spending a year at home, distance learning. The last time my new fourth graders were in school, they were second graders. No one knew that a pandemic was about to hit Hawaii, including its Title I schools, would never be the same.

My students have missed out on the collaboration and creative learning environment my classroom provides for over a year.

Our classroom space has never been an inclusion setting before, so we have minimal resources to provide to unique learners. As a mix of both students with and without special needs, the inclusion setting would allow students the space to grow socially/emotionally, which is needed to process their return to learning in 2021-2022.

My Project

Our class has been amazing young leaders at the front of keeping our classroom clean during the pandemic. They use wipes to clean their desks at least once daily and utilize hand sanitizer each time they enter our classroom and before they leave for lunch. Parents generously donated supplies at the beginning of the year but we have already used all disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer. Students have also run out of many necessary headphones for technology time and assessment taking, like the ones provided at the beginning of the year were not made to last. With 5 months left, we need more supplies to end our year strong.
