Clean Water - We All Need It!

My students need batteries, storage boxes, and a variety of materials to engage in an Engineering Challenge that focuses on purifying water.

FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Craner's classroom raised $257

My Students

I have 23 students in my 6th Grade class. My students come from a variety of different backgrounds. During math and science I have three students mainstreamed in my class from a behavior support class. My students are very engaged and excited about learning. They love hands-on activities - especially in science.

I enjoy teaching my students about social justice and empowering them to make a positive difference in the world.

I have avid readers, amazing writers, mathematicians, scientists, and artists in my class. Its such a joy to watch them help each other learn. My students are comfortable to make mistakes and they enjoy trying new things.

My Project

Most American students take for granted that they can drink clean water from their tap - this is not the case for many people around the world. A large portion of the world's population does not have access to clean drinking water.

This engineering activity will help students learn about the need for clean drinking water and provide them with an opportunity to explore the most efficient way to purify water.

I will use this activity to kick off our unit about global issues. Once we study a variety of different issues, my students will select one issue to focus on as a class. We will then lead a school wide fundraiser. The money will be given to an organization that works on the issue my students select. I want them to know that they have the ability to make a positive difference in the world.
