This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is organized and it looks clean but mold, dust mites, and dirt remains hidden in the floor crevices and on the rug that my students sit on. I want to keep my students from being sick with the stomach flue by keeping my rug clean.

I teach at a high poverty, title one, school where more than half of the student population is on the free/reduced lunch program.

We also provide breakfast to our students free of charge in the morning so that more students can start the day with full tummy. Our school is in a neighborhood of apartments and single family homes with diverse cultures and languages. In my class we have 7 different languages spoken at home and English is their second language.

My Project

Dust mites, dead human skin cells, dirt, mold and pine pollen triggers allergies and sickness to many of my students daily. Our classroom gets swept and vacuumed once a week by our janitor. When we use the school vacuum, it spews out dusty dirty air right back out on the floor. I make sure students wipe their shoes on the mat before coming into the room, still keeping my rug free of disgusting stuff is a biggest challenge. Students with allergies suffer with coughing, sneezing and itching throughout the day. Stomach flu and exposure to virus from mold cause many absences among the younger students. I would like to alleviate these symptoms by making sure that the rug they sit on is kept clean. There will be lot more learning when students are in class and studying on a cleaner floor.

This powerful vacuum cleaner will help pick up dirt from the carpet and will reduce harmful bacteria that makes students ill.

Not only will my class look spic and span, but it will also be germ-free for all students to learn. Thank you in advance for your support.
