Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We have students that come from disadvantaged schools to our career center to learn a trade. Students can choose to either attend college or work after they graduate our program.
Most of our students work so they can help their struggling families with living expenses.
All of our students are curious and eager to learn. One of the main ways that students learn is to engage with as much hands-on work as possible. My students have many questions and are eager to learn. They are very bright and inquisitive and should be able to have a safe clean environment to expand their education.
My Project
I teach in a Career Center in a very urban school district. We have students coming to our school from 11 different schools in the district. As you can imagine, we have germs coming in from all over Houston. Texas in general, and especially Houston have been hit especially hard by Covid-19.
In order to protect my students better, and especially my medically fragile students, I need to have added precautions in place for them.
Going to school should be enjoyable and safe. We have a responsibility to protect our students as much as possible. In light of the governor's order that school districts are not allowed to mandate masks, this task has been made even more difficult for districts and teachers especially.
Having an Air Purifier/Filter in the classroom would make my room much safer and help to alleviate some of the students' concerns about the air quality.
Please help make my room a safe haven for our students who are the future of our country. Students should be able to attend school with at least one less thing to worry about.
