This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is located in the Bronx, in a community deeply affected by high rates of poverty and crime. Many of our students live in temporary housing or shelters, and often come to school without basic necessities. Despite these challenges, they arrive each day ready to learn, hopeful, and resilient. Clean clothes might seem simple, but for our students, they make a world of difference in how they feel and participate in class.

This project will provide essential laundry supplies—laundry detergent, bleach, dryer sheets and laundry bags—for our families living in temporary housing.

These items will help families maintain dignity, improve hygiene, and support their children's ability to attend school confidently and consistently.

For many of our students, a lack of clean clothes leads to bullying, embarrassment, or absenteeism. With these supplies, families can wash clothes more regularly, whether at a laundromat, a shelter, or with assistance from community resources. This project gives them the tools to meet a basic but crucial need.
