My Students
Every day I greet students with a hug and a smile at the door. We start off with "circle" time. Students are able to express their feelings in a circle. This technique helps with the social/emotional aspect of their lives. We engage in rich text that helps with reading, writing, and expressing ideas.
They are students who are products of generational poverty, but every day strive to do their best.
They are children who are always wanting more, and never allow their challenges to prevent them from learning and striving to be all that they can be. My scholars are very outspoken, and enjoy having their voices heard. I call them the "great debaters" because they would rather verbally complete tasks with groups versus independent practices on a worksheet. They all enjoy hands-on learning. They love for their work to be displayed around the school or on bulletin boards. Our school is such a family-oriented environment. Every staff member takes responsibility for each child's well being. It is never "my students;” it is always "our students.”
My Project
Back to school is upon us and in an effort to keep my scholars in school, clean classrooms is extremely important. Students often get sick with a cold, flu, or numerous stomach viruses throughout the year.
Keeping them in school is vital.
Our environment has a direct effect on our immune systems. With Lysol wipes, Lysol spray, and a diffuser it would kill germs and decrease the chance of my scholars getting sick throughout the year. Diffusing essential oils in the classroom will also help my scholars to focus and be more relaxed during the day. Many of them come with anxiety and are suffering from PTSD so creating a clean, healthy and comfortable classroom would also help tremendously with their mental health.
