This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like when you were in school? Do you remember what supplies you were required to have in class? The families in my classroom struggle to purchase most of the required materials needed for success in the classroom.
I teach 13 wonderful kindergarten, first, and second grade students in a self contained classroom located in a Title I school on the Lower East Side.
Their academic disabilities range and they require many hands-on activities. This means a lot of touching and sharing germs. My classroom is in desperate need of the basics to help us stay healthy.
My Project
My students use their hands all day long and touch everything. They are so dedicated they come to school with sniffles and unsuspectingly share their germs. Making it the most positive and nurturing experience is a way to insure that these children will continue to love learning and strive to do their best in school. I have requested multiple containers of Clorox wipes and hand soap to help keep the germs away and help my students stay healthy throughout the school year.
My project is so important to me because early childhood education has become heavily focused on teaching literacy and other academic skills, but without basic school supplies this task is very difficult.
Spreading germs just makes it more difficult, so a clean classroom is a happy classroom.
