Clean and Calm

Help me give my students a safe and clean environment for practicing yoga. I only have two class periods of yoga. That means I have to clean my classroom floor daily between my morning and yoga classes.

My Students

I teach an incredibly diverse group of students, racially, religiously, politically, economically, etc. As Social-Emotional Learning became a cornerstone for our district, even before the pandemic, I began to teach a yoga class at our school.

Before the pandemic, many of our students were incredibly stressed out or depressed, and Covid has only amplified that in some of our population.

My Project

I have to clean my classroom floor daily to transition the space from a traditional classroom to a yoga "studio." This takes a lot of time and supplies, and setting a Roomba to run would allow me to use that time to take care of other teacher tasks while the floor is being vacuumed. Then I can quickly follow behind with the wet Swiffer pads and be ready in time for class. It's a labor of love, but my students are worth it. So is the practice of yoga and what it is doing for them physically and mentally.
