Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school has two self-contained classes for students with intellectual disabilities, autism, and/or speech impairments; one class is for preK and kindergarteners, the other for grades 1-5. Our students all learn at their own rates using different strengths and weakness areas.

Most of our families have added costs that go beyond the norm for raising children, such as added therapies, medical supplies, and even duty nurses, so contributing to class projects and needed supplies is too much for us to ask of them.

But staying clean and fed are particularly important during COVID-19 alertness.

My Project

The students in the Early Childhood Special Education room have greater physical needs this year. We have a student in a wheelchair who needs to occasionally lay down while lessons are taught. More than one of our kids get sick easily so we clean all the time!

The room is often stuffy and dry which makes it uncomfortable for those with breathing problems.

A humidifier and bladeless fan will circulate cleaner air for all. Students frequently need physical breaks where they lie down but still need support for their heads and necks. Loose beanbag chairs and neck pillows will give them and the teachers better options when they need to recline.
