My Project
Most students would love to use a pottery wheel at least once in their lives. It is a process that is satisfying to watch, takes steadiness and focus, and is something different from their regular activities. However, our middle school does not have any currently. When students get to the high school level, only a fraction of the students will take a course where they get to utilize a pottery wheel. Because of this, many students won't have the opportunity to try one out.
By providing students with pottery wheels at an earlier age, we are introducing them to something they might not have ever thought they would have a passion for.
This could spark an interest that turns into future careers and/or hobbies. It also provides students with an outlet where they can have physical control over something and create something beautiful they can be proud of. It can be a way to release tension and emotions, as well as work on a student's focus, motor skills, and overall steadiness.
More than half of students from low‑income households
