My Project
Working with clay is a unique and wonderful opportunity that is vastly different from drawing with a pencil on paper. Students will begin by spending some time observing what other artists have created in the past. Then we will experiment with various building techniques such as slab, coil, and pinch. The clay is then re-wedged to be used for the final piece. This is one of the great things about clay, it can be reworked until it is fired. Then they will design their own piece and bring it to life with the clay. Tools make this process easier and the pieces more refined. The glaze is applied using paintbrushes and is then food safe! Some students choose to use paint, so we prime it first with the white paint.
Working with clay is an amazing opportunity to take a ball of moldable material and make it into something special that will last a lifetime.
The glazes will be used for multiple classes and underglazes can be mixed to create new combinations. Thank you so much for supporting our young artists and giving them this wonderful chance to make a vessel that they have designed and created from start to finish.
