My Project

In our classroom, creativity is more than just fun—it's a lifeline. I work with students who face many hardships and big behaviors. Many of them struggle to focus, regulate emotions, and stay engaged in traditional learning environments and art practices such as pencil to paper drawing. This spring I started clay with my 6th grade students and discovered something amazing: clay changes everything.

When my 6th graders were given access to clay, I saw transformation—calm hands, focused eyes, and imaginative minds at work.

These students, who often find school overwhelming, were suddenly thriving. Clay gave them a way to express emotions, build confidence, and stay grounded. Students who refused to create art before were locked in creating the most beautiful works. Behaviors drastically improved and my students were working together in a safe, appropriate and respectful manner.

Unfortunately, our school’s budget only allowed us to provide this experience to a few students. The rest are watching from the sidelines, eager to try. My goal with this project it to raise funds so that I have enough clay for all classes to be able to create a clay project for the 2025-2026 school year.

Watching this experience has been one of the most special things I have witnessed thus far on my teaching journey. As a ADHD artist, I have first hand encountered the magic in clay and I so desperately want to show that to more students.
