Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever sat in awe at the movie theater wondering just how scriptwriters and producers capture our attention and bring us such suspense and laughter? My students have a technological world at their fingertips but haven't had the opportunity to discover its potential. Imagine the possibilities!

My fifth grade students are highly enthusiastic about challenges and have made the commitment to read a million words this year.

They have also discovered that their own minds are full of words waiting to be put into stories. They are a fun-loving, creative, and dedicated group of learners. My students come from primarily Latino families in a mid to lower socioeconomic community that is located in suburban California. Their lives are full of challenges during these socio-economic times. In spite of these challenges, my students and their parents possess a dedication to support and extend their learning as they strive to develop as critical thinkers. Our school has about 1000 students in a PreK-5 environment.

My Project

A Claytoon Modeling kit allows my students to turn clay into characters that come to life with the help of the Sony digital camera and tripod. Clay figures will be manipulate and captured on digital frames to portray the story plot and its development. We will utilize the Frames software and seek assistance from the Tech4Learning website to edit the frames. My students will increase their critical thinking and problem solving skills as they collaborate in diverse groups to creatively write a script, take digital pictures, manipulate clay characters, organize digital frames, and add the story narration to produce a clay animation movie. They will work under the direction of the teacher, with specific goals and objectives that are driven by the State Standards. This technology project will open their eyes to the endless opportunities of creative expression. Projects can include historical events, scientific processes, sports events, healthy habits, and other endless possibilities.

This is a worthy project because it gives students motivation to be creative writers and work as a team.

The academic growth for these students will be measured not only this year, but far in the future. Technology is their future. This project will be the beginning of endless possibilities that technology can bring to these leaders of tomorrow! Please donate toward this project and provide an opportunity that will be memorable for a lifetime. Thank you for your generosity. Sincerely submitted.
