Clay, Clay, Let's Play With Clay -- Kindergarteners Enjoy Hands-On Expression!!
The cost of this proposal for a clay workshop at The Painted Pot for 23 kindergarten students is $367, including shipping and <a target="new" href="http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm" onclick="g_openWindow('http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm', 300, 800, 'fulfillwindow');return false;">fulfillment</a>.
I teach a wonderful kindergarten class. The children are curious and enthusiastic and particularly enjoy doing hands-on activities, such as working with playdough and making fanciful objects and expressive designs.
I would love to help expand my students' experiences of creative self-expression, and I think I have found a wonderful place to take them. Near our school -- within walking distance -- there is a small, local pottery studio that offers both adult and children's classes. The place is called The Painted Pot, and I am asking for funding to take my 23 kindergarten students there for a clay workshop.
The Painted Pot is a small pottery studio. The environment is low-key and fun. While the instruction is comprehensive, it is primarily supportive and encouraging of creative self-expression in clay. I know my students would love being there and working in clay.
Each student will receive individualized instruction according to his or her interests and experience and will be shown the fundamentals of working with clay in a pottery studio, covering topics like wedging, centering, lifting, trimming and glazing. The children will each make a ceramic object from beginning to end, experiencing the process from start, working with the wet clay, to finish, painting it at the end.
My students have limited opportunities to take trips because the cost is too expensive for their families. This would be a fun, memorable and educational experience they would really enjoy.
Thank you.
