Since my first year of teaching, at least one student in each class has asked if we would be working with clay. We've never had a kiln... until now! Of course, I need the supplies and don't have a big enough budget. Help out L Middle School, please!
L Middle School is an inner city school in Tennessee.
We are a Title 1 school with 90% of our students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Despite our disadvantages, our school is improving greatly. We have been evaluated by different groups, such as Tribal and SACS, and have been raved about. Help our kids further their art education by donating clay!
My Project
Ceramics is always an essential part of art education. Not only will the students learn how to construct clay vessels, they will learn about the cultures that use clay for everyday items. Also, we will look into the chemical change it goes through in the kiln.
This project is essential to expanding our students' ideas as to what art is.
We can look at how different cultures used clay, from African jugs to Ming Dynasty porcelain ware. Art can have a function as well as being aesthetically pleasing.
