My project needs a 4 foot by 10 foot whiteboard, dry erase pens and erasers.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. N.'s classroom raised $754

I teach Reading, Language Arts and spelling at a public school (Loranger Middle) located in Tangipahoa Parish. I teach a group of special education/resource students. Many of the students' families have difficulties with finances. These students are already behind in school work. As a teacher I strive to catch them up with their correct grade level.
I use many resources in my room to reinforce lessons and give them ample practice. I currently have a chalkboard (slate) across my room. I have encountered numerous problems with it. The price of chalk, chalk dust covering everything, student allergies to chalk, the cleaning of the board and unreadable writing due to broken chalk. Students also have difficulties reading my overheads on the chalkboard (even with the lights out). I really would like to replace the chalkboard.
I have done some research and came up with a solution that will benefit all students. I would like to replace the chalkboard with a whiteboard. I feel that the dark text on light is much easier to read for my visually impaired children.
Whiteboards make learning fun for students. The colorful writing aids in teaching spelling lessons and keeps the students attention longer. They will be able to use the colored markers to identify nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc. The whiteboards will provide a larger area for students to write on. Overheads can be seen without a projector screen and students can answer the question on the whiteboard itself. Whiteboards offer an allergy-free environment as opposed to chalk. Last, but not least, whiteboards are easier to erase! I could go on forever praising the usefulness of these whiteboards.
I found a whiteboard that is 4'x 10'. This board is also magnetic. It would be a great asset to the classroom.
