Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Bill Nye, The Science Guy, my students love watching him on tape or DVD. It would be nice to have access to a classroom television, VCR, and DVD without hassling with administrators and other teachers. With videos and DVDs student will be exposed to science, social studies, and language arts in a different light. Most often my students are from low income immigrant families and have little or no experience with many of the themes associated with our reading program and social studies unit. Aside from the actual experience with the classroom TV, VCR, and DVD, I hope to fill in the gap by showing educational videos and DVDs that will capture the students imagination. For example, Bill Nye the Science Guy is a prime example of a series of educational videos that are supplementary resources to further assisting the students in comprehending abstract ideas. Class after class, year after year my students will benefit from the TV, VCR, DVD. My students come from various backgrounds and I hope the TV along with VCR and DVD will help me fill in the gaps and enrich the students educational experience with multiple means such as books, field trips, and the media in this case.
