My Students
In my class of 24 excellent and curious students, we do a lot of small-group/individual work in my class that, as one can imagine, requires independent and student-run activities for some while I work with others. This 6-pack of tablets will help me give more individualized attention to all levels.
I teach a wonderful group of first graders at a school in Southern California where 40% of the students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and 100% of the students receive free breakfast daily.
Our school loves to integrate the arts and technology into our academics because we know that many students get inspired and thrive in an atmosphere where they can explore and have fun too. We are a school full of many cultures, and many students speak another language other than English at home.
My Project
While I'm working with some students, and my aide or parent is working with a group of students, and one group is perhaps in the library or playing a literacy game, another group could be at the "Tablet Center" researching their writing topics for expository writing. This is just one of the many things these tablets would enable my students to do. Students will always be working on pre-selected apps to do a variety of things, from the remediation of specific, individualized needs in math, to playing reading games, to reading books, to playing with phonics, to reading about science or social studies. They will research and create, practice and explore.

I am not a believer of simply throwing children in front of a screen - but used correctly, a tablet can be a wonderful learning tool (in fact, many tools in one!) and your contribution can make this dream a reality.
