My Students

The writers I teach impress me everyday. They have a strong work ethic and strive for excellence in all that they do, meeting challenges both academic and personal with great character.

Over ninety percent of my students are Hmong American, and many struggle with English language proficiency.

You can imagine the challenges that a composition course presents. Grammar rules that many Americans simply absorbed as small children must be kept at the front of my students' minds as they attempt mastery of rhetoric. All this, and they're still eager to improve their academic writing. Your donation will help me honor this strong work ethic.

My Project

I can connect this technology to my projector so that everything I do on the iPad is reflected on our whiteboard for students to follow along with and learn from.

Research supports the practice of in-class modeling, whether it be to show note-taking strategies, in-text annotations, or pre-write brainstorming.

I have found that my students learn best from watching me first model the skill I want them to master. With this iPad, I can project any text/image/etc. on the board, use the Apple Pencil to annotate the work, and save that work as a PDF to be posted in Google Classroom so that they can refer back to these notes as needed.
