Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

All of my students come from homes where English is a second language. Despite the challenges of coming from immigrant homes, my students put forth maximum effort and embrace challenges to become super-star students. Our school is a Title I school with 90% of our student population on a free/reduced-priced lunch.

As part of my incentive program for the upcoming school year, I plan on having a hands-on classroom store for my students.

How does the store work? During the week, students will earn tickets for showing responsibility, demonstrating kindness, not giving up when tasks are challenging, pursuing excellence, and interacting with good manners. At the end of each week, students will get an opportunity to shop in the store for themselves or family members. They will also have the option to save their “money” to purchase items that are more expensive. In addition to earning reward tickets, students will also learn how to save, spend, and manage their money – a valuable life skill.

Students love getting rewards! These days, they are very much into the slime, fidget toys, bracelets, squishy toys, plush animals, and squeeze balls. They also like fancy pencils, pens, and erasers! These items in the classroom store will keep them motivated to be super-star students and build life-long saving & spending skills.
