My Students
I am the teacher of 30 energetic and remarkable 4th and 5th-grade students in a city with the most ethnically diverse neighborhood in our country! Each morning my students walk through the door and are greeted with new opportunities to learn and be successful. My students are very creative and, as their teacher, I do my best to foster their learning and provide opportunities to grow as individuals.
Everyone has a story.
Each of my students comes from his or her own unique situation and home life. We have an ethnically and economically diverse classroom full of eager learners and very hard workers. All of my students have strengths to share, as well as room to grow academically, emotionally, and socially.
My Project
Currently, many of the materials my students need to use are stored in tubs and totes, which are stacked on the floor or on top of a cabinet. The way these materials are currently stored is not conducive to a student-centered classroom. These materials are stored in a way that students need to wait for me to have time to help them find and access what they need. Sometimes this means that I have students waiting for me to finish working with other students or small groups. This is valuable time during the student day that is being lost.
Often times, we have many different things going on in our classroom.
My students need to be able to access their math manipulatives, math games, word games, writing center supplies, craft supplies, science tubs, and other students materials without having to wait for me to help.
The two shelves I am requesting will allow for our classroom materials to be organized in a way that students are able to easily and independently find what they need during any given time during the day. Organized materials and supplies will help keep our classroom running smoothly.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
