My Project
I am a 6:1:1 teacher in District 75. My students are primarily Autistic and non-verbal. My students need a wide range of items for the upcoming school year to be able to have the most fulfilling education.
My students learn through reinforcement and social play therefore they need many different board games and sensory toys.
My students will utilize games such as candy land to mand (request) different pieces of the board games from their peers. This will help them to use their AAC devices for socialization. When my students work appropriately with their peers they receive positive reinforcement. Reinforcement is different for each student, that’s why it is imperative that I have a variety of sensory toys.
Lastly, my students need a calm down corner that would be made up of the rug and floor chairs from Lakeshore. They will use this area when they are feeling overwhelmed and need a break from work.
