My Project
I am teaching a history course this year on World War II, and one of the major units will be on Japanese incarceration. Our class will be reading George Takei's book "They Called Us Enemy," which I will need a classroom set of.
Once we have finished the memoir, we will be taking a field trip to Topaz, in central Utah, the site of one of the largest incarceration camps during the war.
We will attend the museum there and take a guided tour, after which we will have a class discussion of the book while sitting in the location where events like these happened.
I am looking forward to the educational potential of combining this book with a class field trip.
