This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are 5 year olds who are attending their first year of school and are very excited about starting kindergarten. The school where I work is a title I school, 80% of my students are economically disadvantage and 100% are from a hispanic background who are learning english and attending a bilingual classroom.
My goal is for the students to have a classroom rug for circle time and whole group instruction.
We currently have an old rug with no dividers, letters or colors to make it more flexible for students to seat at the floor.
Acquiring a classroom rug with letters will help the students with having some structure and routines in place, they will have an assigned letter where they will seat and be ready to learn. Having a classroom rug for children will make their environment warmer and more inviting.
I want my kids to walk into a classroom full of bright colors, including the circle time rug.
My Project
We start off the instructional day with our circle time and then move on to our whole group instruction. Students are required to come sit at the carpet and be ready to learn but we currently don't have a classroom rug, with your help we can make our whole group instruction and read alouds more appealing for the students. Kindergartners love having structure and routine and this is the reason why we need a rug with the alphabet so a letter can be assigned to each of them, students will know where to sit when they come to the carpet.
