Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach English learners, some of whom are newcomers to the country and speak no English and others who have been here a limited amount of time and speak little English.
We work all year to learn how to grow from failure and use it to get a step closer to success.
Many of my students come to me with a sense of apathy formed from the lack of experiences of academic success in the past. We're a Title I school with more than 80% of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.
My Project
We are requesting books with diverse and interesting characters, markers and erasers for their dry erase boards, general supplies like tissue and Clorox wipes, and some educational games. The Clorox wipes and tissues will be used to keep the classroom sanitary for all students. The dry erase markers and erasers will be used for the class set of small dry erase boards that my students use for all-inclusive response activities and games.
The books will be used to engage readers through characters that are diverse and easily relatable to my students.
The audiobooks especially will be useful in my ESL classroom to ensure that even my students with limited English literacy can enjoy the literature. The games will help me get all students engaged, even my reluctant learners.
