This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have so many students who love to read. After tests or on Fridays, I like to give my students a chance to dive into their books. Unfortunately, the classroom doesn't have a space to offer them a comfortable seat that is free of distraction from their peers. I think it will be an opportunity to turn reading into not just a common practice but a reward where students can go into the nook and dive into their favorite book.

I strongly believe that there is a correlation between comfort and a desire to learn - a reading nook with cushions and pillows could allow for that.

I have a large classroom and setting up a reading nook that is inviting and friendly will pull even the non-readers into that area to encourage and promote reading. Additionally, I work with a small group of after-school students to improve their literacy skills - this would be a great learning center in the room.

Finally, the string lights is something that will really be able to calm down the harsh brightness of the classroom. Too often, students complain of their eyes hurting but if the lights are completely off, it isn't conducive to learning. The string lights will not only create a pleasant atmosphere but also promote a better learning environment.
