Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember the first time you saw your own writing in print? Imagine what it will be like for my students to write and print their own books, stories and essays. My students currently are unable to print completed classwork and take that final step of publishing.
My class is full of wonderfully optimistic students.
Many of my students have disabilities. Several students are also English language learners. They are eager to learn but struggle with writing and organization. Many of the students in my classroom live in low income housing, foster homes, or shelters. However, they usually come to school with bright smiles and positive attitudes. Most of my students do not own or have access to a computer or other forms of technology other than in school. Working with any technology is exciting for them.
My Project
A classroom printer/copier will be an excellent resource for my students to utilize. Students with problems organizing writing content and students struggling with their fine motor skills currently work on our classroom computer to write. However, they are unable to print their work. Publishing work is an excellent motivator for students as it makes their writing beautiful and tangible to look at and hold.
Currently, students in my classroom are creating non-fiction biographies of explorers. Students are not only researching their explorers but they are also creating their own book with several non-fiction text elements such as: bold words, pictures, captions, table of contents and a glossary. A classroom printer will enable my students to publish a creative product to keep for themselves. It will also enable my students to produce many future projects.
A classroom printer/copier will enhance the writing and research abilities of my students.
Students will be able to copy research, print photos and produce a professional looking product. It will in turn inspire my students to become confident writers.
