This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 60% of our students receiving free lunch. Our students speak a multitude of languages. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are also diverse in their academics as well.
My students are an enthusiastic, eager group of 3rd-grade students who come from very diverse and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Our school is a Title I school. My students are excited about learning and want to do well. Our class includes gifted learners, English language learners, and students with academic disabilities.
My Project
Pets Enrich the Classroom Experience in many ways. Students with no exposure to animals or nature in their home environment can see, feel, touch and make connections to the wide world of animals. Observing and caring for an animal instills a sense of responsibility and respect for life. A pet brings increased sensitivity and awareness of the feelings and needs of others. Students learn that all living things need more than just food and water for survival. Students will see directly how their behavior and actions affect others as they engage with our classroom pet in feeding, cleaning, and housing.
Students will use the food, feeders and habitat rock, to keep the reptiles' environment sustainable.
They will learn to care for and determine what our reptile needs and use the heaters and digital thermometers to keep their habitat constant. Students will use the sand and carpets for cleaning and setting up a space conducive to a desert.
Studies show that the presence of animals tends to lessen tension in the classroom. Caring for pets in the classroom is one way of improving school attendance and teaching children about responsibility. The supplies requested will assist our students in their care and needs.
More than half of students from low‑income households
