Help me give my students their class pets the continuous care that they need by funding their care inside of their habitat. Our guinea pigs named Mini Oreo and Mouse.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Title I school, meaning at least 40% of the families in our school are considered low income. The Title I policy is “committed to closing the achievement gap between low-income students and other students” as per the U.S. Department of Education.
Our school has some of the most creative, intelligent, and imaginative students around.
We are proud of the diversity in our school, which we tap into in order to learn about the world around us. We celebrate our similarities and our differences.
My Project
Caring for pets in the classroom is one way we are trying to teach our students about responsibility. Our guinea pigs are cute but they require lots of maintenance.
Also, Mini and Mouse are rescue pets.
They need to be treated with lots of love and care. Our students have learned that if they want to be liked and trusted by them, they’ll need to treat them carefully and kindly. Our students have been so gentle around them. Especially guinea pigs who love human contact and can become a bigger addition to our classroom. We are hoping Mini and Mouse feel comfortable enough to roam freely in our classroom.
