My Students
I teach at a Chinese and English dual language immersion K-8 public school in Houston. I am a Chinese teacher and share two classes of 22 students with my English partner teacher. Students in our school spend half day learning subjects in Chinese and half day in English.
Our special 1st graders are eager to be more independent and self-sufficient while exploring the world with two languages, through two cultural lenses.
Students in my class are from different cultural backgrounds with varies of levels in Chinese and English, but they all have a strong passion in learning languages. They are willing to listen and understand each other. They each are unique asset in this class community.
My Project
A kid-friendly and easily accessible classroom organization is an environment that I strive to create for my students. We are a dual language immersion school. Maximizing instructional time is especially crucial for us since our time for each subject is shorter but our academic goals need to be aligned with the school district. To make learning effectiveness happen, our 1st grade little friends need to know when, where and how to get the needed materials quickly and quietly. They are also expected to adapt for different teachers’ systems since they are switching between classrooms daily.
An organized classroom that is clearly color coded, labeled, sorted, and making sense to our daily routines not only helps save time and increases productivity, but is very essential this school year because of the higher needs for sanitary.
I believe a well-planned organization system will minimize the distractions and allow kids to tune their attention on the learning itself.
