This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Special education can be challenging but extremely rewarding, mainly if you teach in the Bronx. My students come from a predominately low-income area and come from single-family households. Ninety-nine percent of my students receive free or reduced-price lunches based on their socio-economic backgrounds, and twenty-five percent of those students are special needs. My students face many problems in our neighborhood, such as a lack of proper funding for books and other essential needs, growing up in a high crime, high poverty neighborhood, and a culture that doesn't emphasize a vital education.
My students are highly energized and visual learners.
They love working on computers and using technology. In our school, we push our students to become job and college-ready. Throughout the year, we explore how to write resumes, balance checkbooks, plan a dinner party, use Microsoft Office, use Google Drive, and design a house/room/zoo. This way, my students are ready for the real world at a young age.
My Project
This dry erase board and an iPad will help my students use their creativity, fine motor skills, and social skills. The iPad will be really useful during our lessons and can help our students create projects. We also need a dry erase board for our classroom. This dry erase board will be an amazing addition to our classroom. Students love using dry erase boards that they can express their knowledge on, in a fun way other than on paper and pen ! We use it every day in our centers, in small groups, as well as independent work.
