Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a low-income school in Sparks, Nevada. The majority of my students receive free and/or reduced lunch benefits. I currently have 30 first graders who come to school with an eager desire to learn. My students come from very diverse backgrounds.
My students come to school each day excited for new experiences.
This is a special group who likes to help and support each other.
My Project
The items we have selected will help our students learn sight words in fun and engaging ways. (1RF) Students will play sight word games and practice word work using a whiteboard. To encourage SEL in our classroom, students will complete an All About Me poster. This helps students get to know one another. Student organization is very important. Using nameplates with a pencil holder will help students to have resources for learning at their fingertips. Another important tool in student learning is using technology (21st Century NIT standards). Students need headphones to minimize disruptions while using iPads.
