Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Helping students understand financial literacy is important. I can't wait to have these materials in class so that I can lead lessons about financial literacy with these materials. Our school uses Positive Behavior Intervention Supports to encourage students to have expected classroom behaviors.
Having a selection of cool items in our Classroom Rewards Zone motivates students.
Getting rewarded with things that my students like helps my students improve their classroom participation. The items in this project include activity books, post-it notes, pens, slime, and a timer. Students love to make choices and they are excited when they get a new set of pens. They also love to get post-it notes. The items in this project are materials they can use in class or at home. All the items in this project will be added to our Classroom Rewards Zone.
Students use their classroom Chromebooks to research the unit cost of the items in this project. All the items in this project will get a price sticker, so students know the monetary value of that item. During the week my students earn Classroom Reward Paper Money that they use on Fridays to purchase items from the Rewards Zone. Students generate an invoice of the things they want and they use their Classroom Reward Paper Money to get those items. They also write a product review of one of the items they purchased from the Rewards Center.
It is exciting to teach my students about finance and help them learn that they are consumers when they buy things at a store. I am excited that our Classroom Rewards Zone is a small classroom store where my students get things they like and in the process of being rewarded, they learn financial literacy skills.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
