My Students

We have 30 amazing students, who come to school eager and ready to learn. We teach our students to be leaders in and outside of the classroom. This means they are in charge of themselves and are responsible for making their futures great by making the right choices.

We may be a special education ICT classroom, but our needs don't define us.

For some students, our classroom is a safe haven where they know they are loved and encouraged to always do their best. Our students come from various ethnic backgrounds. Additionally, with our school being a Title I school, many of our families come from a low socio-economic class. Students have the opportunities to receive free meals throughout the school day including breakfast, lunch, and an after-school snack. Despite what some may view as disadvantages, our students always maintain a positive attitude and strive to do their best.

My Project

Classroom materials are very important to the daily learning and engagement of my students. I am always trying to think of new ways to support my students academically.

With the school year coming to an end, it is never too early to start thinking about materials in need of retirement and the need for newer materials to use for the following year.

With the use of flexible seating options, students will be able to use the wobble cushions and lap desks to to work in an area in the classroom besides their desk. I have seen my students' interest in them this year and would like to provide more. Our classroom library has drastically increased. By providing our students with books of interest, our students have really enjoyed reading. Unfortunately our bins have become overly stuffed, and we are not able to have all of our books out in the bins. Having new book bins would allow us to put out more of our newer books and keep our students interest level high.

Our student material desk caddies are also in need of retirement. Over the year they get so dirty and dropped, that they too are in need of replacement.

Computers have become an active learning tool in both writing and math this year. We have used computers to research for our writing units and played math games to reinforce our skills. Having headphones would allow students to listen to audio books, hear videos from academic websites and play interactive math games. My students are really into playing hands-on math games and with the use of math bingo, dry erase markers and Jenga, my students will be able to explore a new approach to learning.

Please help in supporting my students' learning by donating to our class project.
